  • Allow the student to fully develop his/her God-given potential in all aspects of life: academic, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual.
  • Afford an opportunity for each student to grow in spiritual awareness realizing the need for Christ as Savior and for a commitment to His service.
  • Present a program that meets or exceeds all New York State requirements that do not conflict with Biblical principles..
"Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus." (Colossians 1:28)
Objectives of LCS

That all students will:

Spiritual -- Come to a saving knowledge of Christ as Savior and will prayerfully consider their role in fulfilling the Great Commission of Matthew 25.

Academic -- Demonstrate academic achievement and an ability to listen carefully, think critically, verbalize cogently, and write precisely.

Emotional -- Develop emotional maturity and show an internalization of Biblical principles of dealing with stress in today's world.

Social -- Learn to develop a proper attitude toward all men so as to always be a ready channel of God's love to others.

Physical -- Demonstrate physical fitness and conditioning, and the realization that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit.

"Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving." (Colossians 2:7)"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (II Timothy 2:15)

History of Lima Christian School
Lima Christian School was founded in 1974, the result of a vision planted in the heart and mind of the Lima Baptist pastor, Noah Stoltzfus.

In 1963 Pastor Noah had felt led by the Lord to start a Christian Day School, however, he held back wanting to be sure that this was of the Lord. In the spring of 1974 the Lima Baptist Church congregation favorably voted to open a Christian School. Classes began in the fall of 1974 with a small number of students. For a number of years students used ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) Paces under the guidance of several teachers. In a few years the student body grew filling the elementary classes. The high school, however, remained small with 5 - 10 in most classes. In 1976 the first educational building was constructed. This was known as the high school hallway. By 1977 the school enrollment had grown to 100 and the next year LCS began a transition in the elementary classes from the individualized packet-learning concept to a traditional classroom approach. In 1978 the church began construction on a multi-purpose building including a gym.

Student growth began to occur during the early 1980's with the school graduating its first class in 1980. The school's enrollment in 1981 was 160 students. A decision was made in 1982 to make a transition from the packet learning to a traditional educational approach in the Junior and Senior High School. Due to this transition and an increase in numbers, the church began construction on the two-story connection between the original classroom section and gym and the sanctuary. James Decker, an administrator at BOCES, was hired as principal in 1984 to facilitate this transition and to build a sound academic program in the high school. The regents program was instituted at this time as a way of establishing the credibility of the educational program of the high school.

For a number of years the enrollment of LCS remained around 180-185. In the mid 1990's LCS began to experience growth again even though there was no advertising except by word of mouth. Ron Davis was hired as principal and his vision and expertise has enabled the school to adjust and stretch as it grew from 180 students in 1995 to over 345 in 1998.
Lima Christian School is unique in many ways. Pastor Noah Stoltzfus purposed in the founding of the school that it would be open to all that profess Christ. As a result our faculty and students come from many different evangelical and church backgrounds. The faculty enjoys a unique relationship -- able to worship the Lord together by their common bind in Christ, and yet able to appreciate each other for their differences in worship and doctrine. At LCS we major in Christ and minor in our differences.

The students, as well, at LCS come from a diversity of church backgrounds representing over 70 different churches. The students, living in Livingston, Monroe, Wyoming, Yates, and Wayne Counties reside in nearly 20 different school districts. Lima Christian School has become a place where the students learn to fellowship in the Lord, worship together, and embrace the common bond that joins them, their bond as brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Over the years LCS has not only developed and maintained credibility academically, but has excelled in other areas as well. The school has been known for providing an excellent sports program. Students are able to participate in soccer, basketball, and girls volleyball. In recent years LCS has experienced winning seasons, highlighted by an undefeated boys varsity basketball season in 1995-96. A decision was made to join section V in the 1997-98 season and that year both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams advanced to the finals with the boys winning the Section V championship game. The school has developed an excellent marching band that involves about 2/3 of the high school students, has won numerous marching awards, and been asked to participate in the Rochester Lilac Parade and Festival activities. In 1996 the school developed an excellent drama team presenting both drama and musicals. In the addition, the school has other activities available including ski, golf club, yearbook staff, and the faculty sponsors a National Honor Society for well-rounded students that achieve high academic standing.

The Lord has blessed LCS in many ways over the years. It is the goal of the school to glorify the Lord in every area -- academically, sports participation and competition, and in extra curricular activities.

Lima Christian School - Ministry of Lima Baptist Church
Lima Christian exists under the umbrella of the Lima Baptist Church. The Church constitution was amended in November 1975 stating that "Lima Christian School shall be conducted as a branch of the activities of the church." As a result of that amendment the purpose of the school was stated as well as the structure.

The school is overseen by a school board. Members of the board, about 14, represent LCS families and attend LBC as well as other churches. The school principal, LBC pastor, and LBC board chairman also sits on the school board. This school board is directly responsible to the LBC board. It is the responsibility of the school principal to administer the school budget with board approval. Financial reports are made monthly to both the school and church boards. Decisions regarding school policy are made by the school board.

LCS enjoys the privilege of the use of the LBC facilities and shares in the cost of maintenance, repairs, and utilities of these facilities. All property, land and buildings belong to the Lima Baptist Church. The school owns equipment -- desks, books, etc. found in classrooms. Any major changes to the facility need to be approved by both the LCS and LBC boards.

LBC does use some of the "school's" facilities for events that include Sunday school classes, summer sports camp, VBS, and youth events; LCS is a guest of the LBC. As such, we need to respect the property that has been provided for our use.
